Summary of the Week! – Jan. 23rd (Training)

It’s been really fun last week and this week, to be really able to take charge of the student council (just because my principle really runs the meetings even though I am the president). So, it’s pretty hard to stand up. I’ve been trying to get everything organized for the Lock In. We had auditions for the Talent Show today. It went really well. We are going to have a prize for 1st place, or the first three places all depending on who wins. It’s a secret, so just in case any of my friends are reading this blog, I am not going to say what it is.

For Valentine’s day I’ve made it official that we are going to get long stem roses. So, that will be pretty fun.

I went to the fitness program today. However, it was open gym, so I came there right after school (even before dinner!). I exercised based of this list that I was provided last time, which took me about 30-40 minutes. My back and shoulders have been aching, but I want to ask next time if  I could add a few more routines to my exercise. This whole thing is exciting as well as everything that has been going on lately. . .

Science fair has been progressing along. I just saw this amazing clip of a boy (13 years old!) presenting a power point to all these judges on a really ingenious idea. Basically, he looked at the golden ratio of how a tree is structured, and tried to mimic that for this creating with solar panels. It turns out that his creation collected 50% more sunlight than just flat solar panels. Also, today I just saw this Youtube video of a women in Uganda who wrote the book I received for Christmas — Kisses from Katie. Then, I saw another amazing thing on TV about the way elephants communicate. It just comes to show if you follow your heart, you can succeed and really learn something amazing. I feel this has really given me a lot of inspiration on being able to do something great in science (almost like the high-schooler who believes she has found the cure to cancer). All this new science information has been starting to reveal. I just really hope to be apart of this really soon, and I might have an idea of what I will be getting into. . .

Jan. 22nd — Fitness Program

Today (Sunday) which is a work day for Israelis, I went to the fitness program. It was raining really hard hear, almost like a storm, so we practised inside. I’m not sure if this really counts as running (even though we did do a bit of running laps and sprints inside) but we mostly did aerobic exercises with weights.  I did so many different types of exercises, my legs are a bit sore, but my arms are so sore they are like limp. I feel good though because I have been sick for a week and just to be able to get out there and exercise makes me feel better (if you can believe it).  Even though it’s hard work and painful, it’s a pleasure and I know I’m getting stronger every practice. Just like the quote I had for my SSAT writing section – no pain, no gain.

End of the Week and Fitness (Jan. 16-17th)

I finished all my tests today and am working on my essay. By tomorrow everything will be done. I think it is all going well though. Yesterday, I went to the running program. We first did a ton of fitness exercises (we probably did more than 50 push ups). My arms were killing me even until today. Then, we ran 4 kilometers, more fitness (sit ups), and then 10 sprints. Today, there was open gym during 5 to 8, where you go to another room with all these facilities and just do a lot of fitness exercises. Actually, this whole program and open gym has been super fun for me. It is hard, and my arms do really hurt, but I think it’s really great to start getting back in shape. It’s just nice to be able to work out and kind of feel the same way as I felt in the gym. Until now, I didn’t realize how much I missed just working out. So, I’m really excited!

Running 2.1 Miles — Jan. 8th

So, today I ran 2.1 miles (I stopped a bit right before my house because my dad said I need to warm down by walking). I did it in 22:25 minutes. Again, I did the gala-way method where you run and walk for a bit. I walked for 1 minute, then later 30 seconds, and three 20 second walks. I think next time I’ll do the same thing and after I get use to that, I’ll try to stop walking as much. It was actually good today — not dying after the run. It was pretty cold and windy out (that usually helps me to breathe better anyways).

Running 2.2 miles — Jan. 7th

Today I ran 2.2 miles. We went the normal way — “garlic pizza” loop — and then continued past our house to the intersection and back (which was an extra 0.7 miles). We used a bit of the gala-way method where you run for a certain amount of time and then walk for a minute (but we did half a minute).  It was hard towards the end — as running always is. I think the only way for me to continue running is by blogging a journal of my running times/distances/dates so that all of you can see it and encourage me to continue. To tell you all the truth, I hate running. But I need a sport that doesn’t matter if I’m not that tall (I’m 5 foot and am 13 years old!).

Happy New Year! (+ Running 1.5 miles — Dec. 31st)

First off, I would like to wish every one a Happy new year and a safe one! I am really sorry I haven’t been able to really add any posts, I’ve been pretty busy lately with all the holidays and everything. So, I will be posting a lot of posts soon (I have a lot to talk about!). Anyways, for a quick update, I ran today the “garlic pizza” loop which is 1. 5 miles. I ran it in 14:39 minutes, so about 30 seconds less than last time. So, that’s good! I’m not as achy either as I was before, but I was coughing for about 25 minutes after my run. My mom was starting to think I have asthma (I hope not) because I am always coughing after my run. But it was much better today!

Running 1.5 miles — Dec. 28th

So today I went running the “garlic pizza” loop which is about 1.5 miles in 15:09 minutes. I could do better, but its a start (again)! Hopefully, I’ll continue. I’m a bit achy but hopefully that will end soon. In all I think I had a good pace, and it was nice to run — kind of.
